Welcome to the Forest Learning Centre!

Thanks to your amazing support, the Sir Michael Uren Learning Centre is helping rainforest communities in Borneo learn how to protect their forests and wildlife.

At the centre, everyone can join in–school kids, teachers, companies, and government workers. They take part in fun, hands-on lessons about saving rainforests and caring for nature. Children enjoy drawing and colouring wildlife, watching movies, and listening to stories about animals and the forest.

So far this year, over 483 people have visited the centre!

And we’d love for you to hear from some of them, so you can see what you’ve made possible with your kindness.

Your Support, Their Voices

In January, a school group of 60 school kids watched a wildlife and environment movie. The principal loved the experience, saying “we all learned a lot about wildlife conservation and habitat.”

A kindergarten group of 87 children joined a storytelling session about protecting wildlife. “It is hoped that children will better understand that some animals are protected and some should not be kept as pets.” says their principal.

Another group of 29 kindergarten kids learned about orangutans through storytelling, and coloured drawings of different wildlife local to their area. “It is interesting that children understand that orangutans’ food is fruit found in the forest, not fruit that humans usually eat,” said their Headmaster.

Learning about the forest and its precious wildlife from a young age is so important. These lessons help children understand that wild animals belong in the forest, not in homes. And that the rainforests are an important part of the ecosystem, sustaining life for all!

15 high school kids recently learnt that one key way to protect the environment is by safely managing waste. They discovered practical, everyday ways to recycle non-organic waste.

“From the material about waste, we also learned that the dangers of waste can have a big impact on biota living in the sea,” says one of the students.

In March, 160 people from a local community group got creative, with an eco-print activity. They used leaves to print onto fabric, while also learning about different ways to reduce and manage waste safely to protect their environment.

Thank You

Because of your kindness, rainforest communities are learning, engaging and building a healthy future for their forests, and themselves!

Your support is inspiring the next generation of forest protectors, giving them the knowledge  and power they need to care for their rainforests and the wildlife that call them home.
